El presente simple

EL PRESENTE SIMPLE

Primero es lograr entender cuando se da el presente simple en la oración.

Para diferenciar tenemos que situarnos en una linea temporal

The simple present is used to talk about things wich usually happenned. English insted of Spanish, the simple present is not used to talk about something that is happening at the moment we speak.

NOTES ABOUT THE THIRD PERSON ON SINGULAR "SIMPLE PRESENT"

On the third person of singular, the verb everytime finished in -s:
  • he wants
  • she needs
  • he gives
  • she thinks.
For the negative and interrogative forms, DOES (= third person of the auxiliary 'DO') + the infinitive of the verb is used.
  • He wants ice cream.
  • Does he want strawberry?
  • He does not want vanilla.
Verbs that end in -y: in the third person of the singular, the -y is changed by -ies:
  • fly --> flies, cry --> cries

Excepción: cuando una vocal precede a la -y:
  • play --> plays, pray --> prays

Añadimos -es a los verbos que terminan en:-ss, -x, -sh, -ch:
  • he passes
  • he catches
  • he fixes
  • it pushes

1. Affirmative Sentences (Frases afirmativas)
Sujeto + verbo.

Ejemplos:
  • I talk.(Yo hablo.)
  • He eats.(Él come.)
  • They learn.(Ellos aprenden.)

2. Negative Sentences (Negative phrases)
Subject + auxiliary verb (do) + negative auxiliary ("not") + verb.
Ejemplos:

  • I do not [don’t] talk.(Yo no hablo.)
  • He does not [doesn’t] eat.(Él no come.)
  • They do not [don’t] learn.(Ellos no aprenden.)

Note: On negative phrases, the auxiliary verb ("to do") changes and the main verb goes in the infinitive.

3. Interrogative Sentences (Frases interrogativas)

Verbo auxiliar (do) + sujeto + verbo principal?

Ejemplos:

  • Do you talk?(¿Hablas tú?)
  • Does he eat?(¿Come él?)
  • Do they learn?(¿Aprenden ellos?)

Note: As in negative sentences, in interrogative phrases the auxiliary verb ("do") changes and the main verb goes in infinitive form.
